Lighting Design: Christopher Akerlind


Christopher Akerlind is a lighting, and sometime set designer who has designed over 500 productions at theater and opera companies across the country and around the world. Broadway credits include, SHINING CITY, AWAKE AND SING (Tony nom.), WELL, RABBIT HOLE, A TOUCH OF THE POET, IN MY LIFE, THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA (Drama Desk, Outer Critics, Tony awards), RECKLESS, THE TALE OF THE ALLERGIST’S WIFE, SEVEN GUITARS (Tony nom.), and THE PIANO LESSON among others. Recent projects include, IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at the Metropolitan Opera, DON JUAN IN PRAGUE at the Estates Theater in Prague, Neil LaBute’s new play WRECKS at the Public Theater, Martha Clarke’s works KAOS and BELLE EPOCH, Robert Woodruff’s productions of THE ISLAND OF SLAVES, ORPHEUS X, OLLY’S PRISON and OEDIPUS at American Repertory Theater, HOMEBODY/KABUL at BAM, STUFF HAPPENS at the Mark Taper Forum, THE REAL THING at the Guthrie, CYMBELINE at the Royal Shakespeare Company, PERICLES and DON JUAN for Theater For A New Audience and the premiere of Deborah Drattell’s NICHOLAS AND ALEXANDRA for L.A. Opera as well as the S.I.T.I. Company productions of INTIMATIONS FOR SAXOPHONE, SCORE, ROOM and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM all directed by Anne Bogart. He is the recipient of an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence in Lighting Design, the Michael Merritt Award for Design and Collaboration and numerous nominations for the Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle and Tony Awards.
